Important Update: Wire Transfer to ISO 20022 on July 14, 2025

We're Here to Help
The Federal Reserve adopted the ISO 20022 messaging standard for wire transfers, replacing the former Fedwire Application Interface Manual (FAIM) format. This change enhanced global compatibility and streamlined wire processing.

As of July 14, 2025, all wire transfers are required to comply with the ISO 20022 format.

What is ISO 20022?

The Federal Reserve Bank implemented the ISO 20022 message format for its Fedwire Funds Service to enhance the efficiency of domestic and cross-border payments. ISO 20022 is a globally recognized messaging standard that many financial institutions already use.

  • On July 11, 2025, at 5 p.m. CT, the system lockout began. Wire and template functionality were temporarily unavailable until July 13, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. CT.
  • On July 14, 2025, the ISO 20022 went live. You were advised to log in to ensure your wire templates and settings were working correctly.

What should you expect on July 14, 2025?

Once the new ISO 20022 format went live, you were encouraged to review your creditor details (formerly known as beneficiaries), especially for any recurring wires. Updates to creditor information could not be made before the transition, so logging in on July 14 was recommended to confirm accuracy.

International wires began requiring extra attention starting July 14 and may need manual adjustments to process successfully. A key change was the addition of a required field — Town Name (currently referred to as “City”) — that must be completed for international wires to process.
