Celebrating Our Moms | Mother's Day 2021

This Mother’s Day, May 9th, we honor the strength, perseverance, and unconditional love of mothers everywhere—especially the mothers within the Texas Partners Bank family.

In celebration of the universal joys and challenges of motherhood, we have asked a few of our mothers at The Bank to share words of wisdom they have learned from their own mothers, as well as lessons they have learned from their children.

Dina Garcia

Senior Vice President, Treasury Management Operations
What have you learned from your mother?
To be kind to others, to love and cherish your family, to never take them for granted and to embrace the life you have.
Best piece of advice?
To be an independent woman so that you never have to depend on anyone. My mother never worked or learned to drive so she had to depend on others. She was my rock and I would not be the person I am today without her.
What have you learned from your children?
To accept and love them unconditionally. They are on their own journeys in life, not mine. The love I have for my children is more than they will ever know.

Sherita Graves

Vice President, Compliance Manager & Bank Secrecy Act Officer

What have you learned from your mother?
To never settle for less than I deserve.
Best piece of advice?
To take advantage of each moment.
What have you learned from your children?
That there is no such thing as too old! Let go and have fun!

Natasha Castillo

Vice President, The Bank of San Antonio
What have you learned from your mother?
My mother taught me that women can do anything. She was a single mother to my sister and me for several years, and I remember watching her repairing the refrigerator, take care of the lawn and change tires. Later in life, I watched her go back to school and get her Bachelors and then her Masters degrees. She showed me that even though you have children, you can still better yourself and achieve your own goals while still being a good mom.
Best piece of advice?
My advice as a mother is to not lose sight of yourself while raising your children. Even if you are able and willing to be a stay-at-home mom, you have to still take time for yourself. One day the children will be grown and gone, and you not only must prepare them to be adults, but also prepare yourself for life after kids. Find something that you can be passionate about, and live by that example to show your children that having passion is extremely rewarding.
What have you learned from your child?
My son Aiden has taught me that life isn’t always as simple as we try to make it. As an adult, I try to advise him that situations he sees or lives aren’t as dramatic or important as they seem to him because it’s only a moment in time, and as he gets older they won’t be significant. However, he has reminded me that they are important in that moment, no matter how brief, because the outcome and what he learns from it will shape his future.
